Whitby has a unique charm and is steeped in history and the cobbled streets are lined with an array of intriguing shops, tearooms, restaurants and coaching inns. Visitors can enjoy all the usual amenities of a seaside resort, climb the 199 steps to the ancient Abbey or take a bracing cliff top walk where the scenery is spectacular. Take a boat trip along the rugged Heritage Coastline and discover some wonderful sandy beaches, hidden caves and quaint little fishing villages.
A trip aboard the steam train as it runs across rugged moorland and through wooded valleys for 18 miles between Pickering and Grosmont, passing through Goathland where the TV series 'Heartbeat' was filmed is a must! From June 2007, North Yorkshire Moors Steam Trains run through to Whitby providing the first direct rail link between Pickering and the coast in over 40 years.
